The plant can be grown as a shrub, as a stump or as a tall trunk and the economic life of the mulberry tree varies according to the climate, soil, shape and methods used: for shrub mulberry orchards it is about 15 years, for those with a tall trunk it can reach 60-100 years. The fruit, incorrectly called mulberry, is a fruiting body formed by a true fruit, a seed and a false fruit or pulp; the correct name for this fruiting body is sorio – botanically “false fruit” like a fig– and resembles a blackberry, slightly larger and more elongated in shape.
