How to cook a perfect steak – juicy, tender and full of flavour
A really good steak doesn’t have to be complicated. The secret lies in a few simple details: the right temperature, a really hot pan and letting the meat rest after frying. With butter and garlic you also get a fantastic flavour that makes the steak extra juicy and aromatic.
Ingredients
1–2 steaks of any kind
Olive oil
Salt
Black pepper
1–2 tbsp butter
1 clove garlic
How to do it
1. Prepare the meat
Take the meat out a while before cooking so that it is not ice cold when it ends up in the pan.
Drizzle a little olive oil over both sides of the meat and gently massage it in.
Season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.
2. Brown the steak
Heat a heavy-bottomed or non-stick frying pan thoroughly.
Place the steak in the hot pan and let it get a nice searing surface.
Turn the meat and brown the other side as well.
Add the butter and garlic clove when the meat has a nice color.
Drizzle the melted garlic butter over the steak several times for extra flavor.
3. Let the meat rest
When the steak has reached the desired doneness, lift it out of the pan.
Place it on a plate and cover loosely with aluminum foil.
Let the meat rest for a few minutes before cutting it. This will allow the meat juices to distribute and the meat to become juicier.
Tips for best results
Use a meat thermometer if you want to get an accurate doneness. Also keep in mind that the temperature will continue to rise slightly during the resting period, so remove the meat just before it reaches the final temperature you want.
Serve the steak with oven-roasted potatoes, a creamy sauce and a fresh salad for a complete dinner.
